                            The small ‘squared circle’ (Type 6) was next introduced speci­
                       fically for cancelling stamps, and is known used from 1890 until as
                       late as 1910. Types 7 and 8 were almost certainly intended for back-
                       stamping inward mail, but both are known cancelling stamps in the
                       early years of this century.

                           There had apparently been some uncertainty in the 19th century
                      as to the correct Anglicised form of spelling - GWADUR (Type 1)
                      changed to GUADUR (Type 2) in 1873; but even in 1885, when the
                      date-stamp read GUADUR, the name was spelled GWADUR in
                      manuscript on the Registration Cachets!
