           At no time during the War were unoverprinted stamps used in Bahrain,
           and these forged cancellations were applied to previously-used Indian
           stamps of the 1937 (4a., Rl., Rs2., Rs5) and 1940 (white background)
           issues.

                The importance of Bahrain as a Naval Base was reflected in the
           early establishment of postal censorship in 1940. For reasons unknown,
            mail to India was censored on arrival at Bombay or Karachi and
            the Bahrain Censor hand-stamp appears to have been used only on mail
           going westwards; but it is also known on an inward registered letter
            received from Dubai in March 1943.

                The Airgraph Service was available for civilian use by September
            1942. They were written on standard forms (Instructions in English
           only) and the Bahrain date-stamp (Type 5C) sometimes appears to the
