19th. 1945 to February 6th. 1946. Although the War was then over,
                     it was replaced from February 7th. to April 15th. 1946 by Indian
                     F.P.O. 101 (Type 12) which came from Persia and departed to Iraq.














                          Both British and Indian servicemen had used the Indian F.P.Os   i
                     and, when F.P.O. 101 departed. Service Mail from Bahrain went either
                     to Indian 4C Base Post Office, which was in Basrah, from May 1941 to
                     October 1947, or to British F.P.Os 756 (at Shaibah) or 171 (at
                     Habbabiyah), both also in Iraq. This arrangement continued until
                     British F.P.O. 518 came to Bahrain in about 1949.

                          Until at least September 1946 such mail was ‘On Active Service’
                     and free of postage; but, by early 1948, mail despatched through
                     F.P.O. 756 bore Bahrain stamps.
                          In 1946, the Indian Victory stamps were placed on sale without
    :
                     overprint and are known with Type 8 and 9 cancellations dated      V.
                     between April and November. Covers used in Bahrain and bearing     5
                     these stamps are extremely scarce.
