CHAIN AND CRO\VN SINNETS
2895. The remaining Loop SINNETS are made in hand. The present
one is the only sinnet of distinctive equilateral triangular cross sec-
tion that I have ever seen, except those that I have made myself. This
is of a loose texture which suggests crochet, and I imagine that it is
made with a hook.
I have made it upside down on a spool of two pins. The loops are
stuck toward the center instead of outward. To make: Start with a
TOM FOOL'S KNOT. The working end of cord is led to the right, and
the structure is turned clockwise. Successive hitches are stuck as
shown. Exercise great care in tightening the loops and employ a
soft cord.
2896. IDIOT'S DELIGHT is tied with a single loop and two cords.
Arrange as in the left drawing with the center of the material over
a hook or nail. Stick the left forefinger through the single loop and
withdraw a shart loop, pulling it tightly. Through this loop insert
the right forefinger and withdraw a short loop from the left cord
in similar manner. Pull this tight and continue to alternate until suffi-
cient sinnet is made. Note that each time the forefinger is inserted
through the loop it is put under the part that leads to the working
end. Made in this way, the sinnet will be almost round when pulled
up carefully. If made in large cord, the surplus material will have to
be worked out. But in small, smooth material it will he sufficient to
pull it tight after each move.
2897. This is almost the same sinnet structurally but it has a dif-
•
ferent character. On one side (the left side in this case) the left
finger is inserted over instead of under the part of the loop leading
to the working end of the cord. The other side is entered as in the
previous sinnet. Worked in this way, the resulting cord is very much
flattened. 2.S'}l
2898. IDIOT'S DELIGHT may be doubled successfully. Instead of
sticking a loop through a single bight it is stuck through one bight
and around the next and left well extended. Pin it out on the pro-
jection board when you first attempt it and work the sinnet upward
or away from you.
2899. An easier way to double the sinnet, presenting quite a dif- 2.8'} a
ferent appearance, is to stick each loop through two bights, leaving
the end of the loop well projected. This sinnet builds rapidly and is
not hard to work.
