3700. To join two ends of a SQUARE SINNET.
Seize the ends with CONSTRICTOR KNOTS ('# 1249), and cut them off
square with a razor blade. Saturate the ends with Duco cement, butt
them, and cover the joint with a thin strip of leather and rivet with cop-
per tacks. Cover joint with a TURK'S-HEAD.
3701. To make a '<.L·i?zdow-sbade pull:
Middle two cords each about four feet long and form an eye. Middle
and knot another ten-foot cord ('# 2489) around the base of the ere. \\'ith
the long cord make three inches of LEFT-HAND BAI'NISTEK BARS '# 2494-
Make an equal section of RIGHT BANNISTER BARS. Continue, reversing the
/ HALF KNOTS every three inches. Add a tassel to the end.

3702. A whistle or knife lanyard.
Middle a long cord and leave a loop four inches long. Tie CHINESE
KNOT '# 818 and at a distance of one and a half inches tie KNIFE LANYARD
KNOT '#787, then follow with five inches of IDIOT'S DELIGHT ('#2896).
Repeat LANYARD '#787 and CHINESE KNOT '#818 spaced as before. Leave
three feet clear, and tie KNOT '# 546 in each end. Lay the ends parallel in
contrarv directions and add three RUNNING TURK'S-HEADS .

feet of FOUR-STRAND SQUARE SI~NET ('# Z999) in the center.
Tie a DOUBLE DIAMOND KNOT (#694) and make four inches of
EIGHT-STRAND SQUARE SINNET (# 300 I). Tie another DOUBLE DIA-
MOND KNOT. Layout alternate ends. Make twelve inches of IDIOT'S
DELIGHT with two of the remaining ends and two inches only with the
other pair. Crotch the eight strands and tie KNOT # I 592. Add a
RUNNING TURK'S-l-IEAD to the neck section.
3704. Take four small lines each five feet long. With the center
of two, lay up six inches of nvo-strand rope for a becket. Place
the two ropes together and tie a FOUR-STRAND MATTHEW WALKER.
Lay up two inches of FOUR-STRAND SQUARE SINNET, then middle the
other two lines and lay the bights across the top of the sinnet just made
and seize all eight lines together. All the ends being in the same direction,
tie an EIGHT-STRAND SINNET KNOT ('# 757). Lay up six inches of EIGHT-
STRAND SQUARE SINNET and tie a FULL MATIHEW W ALKJo:R. Divide the
3701 strands and lay up twelve inches of FOUR-STRAND SQUARE SINNET with
each set. Bring the ends together and tie a FULL MATTHEW \VALKER. Now
work fourteen inches of EIGHT-STRAND ROUXD SINNET and tie another
MATTHEW WALKER. Divide the strands again and lay up two FOl;R-STRAND
SQUARE SINNETS fourteen inches long, seize the ends at equal length, tie

Open the first double section of FOUR-STRAND ROUND SINNET anJ
spread the two legs slightly. Turn the EIGHT-STRAND SQCARE section
around to the left and place one leg of the last FOUR-STRAND SQUARE sec-
tion across a bight of the first section. Bring the second leg down to the
left of the other. Arrange the lanyard symmetrically as pictured and seize
strongly at Band C. Cover each seizing permanently with a THREE-
LEAD X FOUR-BIGHT X THREE-PLY TURK'S-HEAD. At A, put a RC1'I'ING
TURK'S-HEAD, SEVEN-LEAD X THREE-BIGHT X THREE-PLY.
3705. A window-shade lanyard. Double two cords, leave a two-inch
loop and tie DIAMOND KNOT ,#694. Make four inches of FOUR-STRAND
SQUARE SINNET and tie '# 742, then make four inches more of FOUR-STRAND
SQUARE SINNET and tie a MATTHEW WALKER. Add one and a half inches
3108 more of FOUR-STRAND SQUARE SINNET and tie a STAR Kl'OT ('# 727). Follow
with one and a half inches of FOUR-STRAND SQUARE SINl'ET and tie a
MATTHEW WALKER KNOT. Make four inches of FOUR-STRAND SQUARE
SINNET and tie '#742. Make four inches more of FOUR-STRAND SQUARE
SINNET and seize, make a two-inch loop with two strands and crotch with
the other two strands. Make SHROUD KNOT '# 1593 and double it.
3706, 3707. These are common knife lanyards. Both are started
at the bottom loop. Either a ROUND KNIFE LANYARD KNOT ('# 787) or a
CHINESE KNOT ('#818) is made and the ends are spliced together at the
side of the neckpiece with a LONG SPLlCE. A RUNNING TURK'S-HEAD is
added, for a puckering knot.
