3746. The common shoestring watch guard of REVERSE CROWN
SINNET (if)!? 29 I 7 ). Middle two long flat leather shoestriTlgs and form
a three-inch loop with one bight. Then introduce the othp.r bight,
stopping all four legs loosel together. Tie a RIGHT WALL KNOT
(jIj.£671) with all four stran s, draw it up tightly and remove the
374b seizing. Tie a LEFT CROWN and continue to alternate RIGHT and
LEFT CROWNS. When sufficient is made, finish off with a MANROPE
KNOT (jIj.£847) or any FOUR-STRAND BUTTON KNOT.

3747. A watch guard of HELICAL CROWN SINNET, CROWNS tied in
one direction (see ill? 2932)' To be tied with round cords. Arrange
the cords as before and tie a DOUBLE FOOTROPE KNOT (#697), re-
move the stopping and draw up snugly. Then crown successively to
the right. Finish off with any FOUR-SUtA:ND BUTTON.
3748. A TRIANGULAR SINNET watch guard of small linen cord.
The loop is of FIVE-STRAND FLAT SINNET. Seize the legs together,
tie LANYARD KNOT ill?737 (over four and under four). Cut off one
strand and make NINE-STRAND SINNET ill? 3028. Seize and finish off

with any BUTTON of nine or less strands, cutting out any superfluous
strands.
3749. A two-cord guard for an ttUtomobile key. It will neither
rattle nor mar the instrument board. Middle the cord and form the
loop, then tie KNOTS ill? 77 7 and ill? 808, in the order pictured, and
:;15' J finish off with a TWO-STRAND BurroN (iII?601).
3750. A STAR KNOT watch guard of fairly heavy cord. Make a
31 SO 37S1 loop of THREE-STRAND SINNET and tie a FOOTROPE KNOT, follow with
a SIX-STRAND ROUND SINNET, add a SIX-STRAND DIAMOND KNOT over
the ROUND SINNET, and finish with a SIX-STRA:ND STAR KNOT.
3751. A DOUBLE Loop key guard. Splice the ends of a short line
together and seize in two loops. Secure four extra strands and cover
the center part with CROWN SINNET and add two F OOTROPE KNOTS.
3752. A flat watch guard. Seize in a loop, tie two or three CHl~ESE
KNOTS and terminate with KNOT ill? 2459.
3753. A watch guard. Divide the cord a little off center and tie
BUTTON ill? 2460. Then tie KNOT jlj.£792. Tuck one end back into the
knot parallel with the other, leaving enough material for a loop.
Withdraw the other end several tucks, replacing it with the end that
formed the loop. Draw all snug.
3754. Ship'S bell ropes, being much exposed to the weather, are

always painted. The becket is seized to the flight of the bell clapper.
Form the becket of FOUR-STRAND SQUARE SINNET, add EIGHT-STRAND
DIAMOND KNOT ill? 693. Follow with EIGHT-STRAND SQUARE SIN~ET,
then an EIGHT-STRAND DIAMOND KNOT. Next an EIGHT-STRA:N1l
ROUND SINNET, and KNOT ill?792, of two strands only. A SIX-STRAND
CROWN SUJNET and a SPRITSAIL SHEET KNOT (*887) completes the
bell rope.
3755. A five-sided bell rope. Middle four strands, make a becket
of FOUR-STRAND SQUARE SINNET. Seize in eight strands to make SIN-
NET *3080, cover the joint with a TURK'S-HEAD, finish off with any
EIGHT-STRAND BUTTON from Chapter 10.
3756. Middle four strands, make a becket of FOUR-STRAND ROUND
SINNET, seize, and ringbolt hitch the becket (ill? 3605); make an EIGHT-
STRAND ROUND SINNET. At half length seize five large strands outside
