It really does take a community to teach a child to become a responsible, loving, and
self-sufficient adult. Being a good parent involves not only providing for the child but
also teaching this child values, self-esteem and positive ways of engaging with the

world. Good parenting creates good citizens who respect the environment and under-
stand teamwork and discipline. But parents can't do it alone. They entrust their chil-
dren to a school to continue instilling good values, discipline, and a strong education.

Neither the school nor the parents can succeed unless the values taught by one are
reinforced by the other. A parent attempting to teach strong values to a child will not
succeed if the school does not reinforce the parents' message, and a school cannot
educate a child unless the parents reinforce the importance of the lessons learned at
school. Where schools and parents create a self-reinforcing positive cycle, they can
collectively produce strong individuals who are committed to making India and the
world a better place!
