•  Creative Writing & Composition (HS) - In this course, your high schooler will learn how to
              write engaging fiction by developing characters, description, setting, plot, conflict, dialogue,
              scenes, word choice, and strong beginnings and endings. It promises to be a very interactive
              class. Required texts: Writing Fiction [in High School]: Bringing Your Stories to Life! by Sharon
              Watson and The Last Book in the Universe by Rodman Philbrick. Instructor: Keira Moody

           •  Junior/Senior Honors English (Writing Emphasis) (HS, 9  & 10  by approval) - An

              accelerated course that requires students to think deeply and richly about both fiction and
              non-fiction, this course offers a blend of classic and contemporary works from authors of
              diverse backgrounds. Thus, students will be exposed to authors ranging from Shakespeare to
              Rudolfo Anaya. This course places a heavy emphasis on a variety of writing/reading skills. It
              further develops students’ vocabulary, grammar, and habits of mind and thinking skills. As
              well, students, individually as well as collaboratively, will conduct/write several in-depth

           •  English 1 (Writing emphasis) (HS) - Does the writing process give you the blues? Do you try
              to avoid it? Or Do you just plain hate writing? In English 1, we will take the complicate out of
              the very simple process of writing. Using fun activities and simplified questions, we’ll make the
              beauty of writing come alive in this beginning 9/10 grade course. This course will explore
              expository, narrative, research, argumentative and professional writing styles. Please expect
              to have weekly homework in both reading and writing in addition to formal writing assignments
              throughout the year. Required Texts: pending. You will also need reliable home internet
              access for the short stories & poems we will be reading this year. Instructor: Jennifer Paolini.

           •  English 2 Honors (Literature & Writing) - **May Be Offered 2019-2020** This course is for
              students beginning their second year of high school Language Arts. This is an upper level
              course and will focus on close reading, literary analysis, and response to literature through
              writing. Please expect to have weekly homework in both reading and writing in addition to
              about four formal writing assignments throughout the year. The texts you will need to acquire
              for this course are: pending. You will also need reliable home internet access for the short
              stories & poems we will be reading this year. Instructor: Pending Recommended Donation of
              $10 per weekly session

           •  Junior/Senior Honors English (Literature Emphasis) (HS, 9  & 10  by approval) - **May Be
              Offered 2019-2020**. This course is for 11th and 12th grade students to prepare them to take the
              AP English Language and Composition or AP English Literature and Composition exams in May.
              This course will be heavily concentrated on independent reading, close analysis of both fiction
              and nonfiction text, and collegiate level composition. Students will be reading non-fiction articles
              and composing essays every week in addition to maintaining an individual reading log of at least
              two novels per semester. Prior to the start of the school year, students taking this course must
              read E.B. White’s Elements of Style, and either Bleak House or A Tale of Two Cities, by Charles
              Dickens, and submit a two-page analysis of the way Dickens develops the reader’s favorite
              character. This is due on the first day of this course. Required Texts: pending Instructor: Eric
