Parkside Football Club 1897/2017
RESERVES REPORT
In opening this report I would like to thank the committee for giving me the opportunity to coach
the reserves, having only had experience in coaching cricket.
We started the season with sixty players to choose from having the unfortunate task of 16 players
missing a game in the first couple of weeks, by the half way mark of the year we were sitting second
on the ladder losing only one game along the way.
After losing to Port Colts in round 10, the second half of the year we seemed to just cruse along
having to scrape up players to make up the numbers due to injuries or work commitments therefore
having a disruptive effect on the team.
By the end of 18 games we had managed to finish 3rd, losing 3 games for the home and away
season, this giving us the double chance.
Finals time arrived and we lost our first game, we then bounced back to win our next two games to
play in another grand final. Unfortunately, during this time the A grade lost both games allowing us 9
senior players to drop back. I have no doubt that without this happening we wouldn't have got this
far.
So, for the grand final with 36 players to choose from and facing Port Colts which were undefeated,
we went in fairly confident, having being down by only 5 points at half time we eventually lost by 25
points.
To summarize the year we had / we used:
54 players throughout the year, 1 player playing all 22 games, 17 players coming up through the
seconds to play A grade and 5 players being reported over the whole year.
We won 4 games by 20 goals or more, 6 games by 5 goals or more and 5 games by less than 14
points.
We kept two side to no goals with one side not scoring at all, and retaining the Paul McDermott
trophy.
In closing I would like to think everyone that helped the reserves throughout the year, and hopefully
everyone will learn from this year that to win a flag in both grades the club must improve both on
and off the field to be a successful finals football club again.
