Parkside Football Club 1897/2017
Semi-Final
“Hoppers Crossing won a place in the Division 1 preliminary final for the first time, beating Parkside
by 35 points to play Spotswood on Saturday.
It was also the first time that a senior or reserves Hoppers team has beaten a Parkside team.
It was a very scrambly game with a lot of turnovers, no doubt due to the pressure of the match
and the cross-wind. It was goal for goal until three quarter time — a tough hard fought match with
players of both teams going in hard.
Both backlines were on top and goals were hard to come by.
The last quarter saw the Warriors take charge of the game led by their big ruckman Jason Parker,
rover Paul Papadopoulos and forward Keith Royston kicking eight goals to one goal in the last
quarter to win by 35 points.
Scoreboard: Hoppers Crossing 13.11 (89) d Parkside 8.6 (54).
Best — Hoppers Crossing: Buckingham, Parker, Campagna, Royston, Papadopoulos, Kitchen; Best for
Parkside: Ali Taleb, Cukovic, O'Keefe, Patterson and Ryan.”

Parkside Football Club saved a bit of face when their reserves beat Spotswood by 24 points to make
it into the grand final against Port Colts.
Best players for the Magpies were Sam Cukovic, George, Messis, Mark Foiwell, David Patterson and
Cory Klaaysen.
“Port Colts reserves played brilliantly to overrun Parkside in the final quarter of the Footscray District
Football League Division One reserves grand final to win by 25 points. The Colts started the game
well, to be five goals in front at quarter-time Parkside then found loose men all over the ground to
kick six goals for the second quarter to be only five points down at half-time.
Heath Mitchell was very good in the first half, kicking four goals, while Senad Cobovic was
dominating the ruck duels, but the on-ballers were not taking advantage of his efforts.
Coach Lloyd Baishaw brought Damian Hall, Damian Rouvray and Glen Manson onto the ground,
which nuffilied Parkside's loose-man style.
The Colts had a 19-point lead at three- quarter time, the lead was reduced to 12 points but then Port
pulled out all stops with five minutes to go and went away to a 25-point victory.”
Port Colts 6.1 9.3 13.5 17.7 (109) d. Parkside 2.2 8.4 10.4 13.6 (84).
