Parkside Football Club 1897/2017

At the beginning of the 1998 season the Yarraville Football Club were having their ground
resurfaced, so it was not an appropriate time to had unfurl to had unfurl the hard-earned by seniors
               and reserves 1997 premiership flags.

So the presentation took place before the Tiger's round 12 clash with Parkside. Joan Grieve did the
the honors with the reserves pennant, while the senior flag was jointly unfurled by Duncan Hunter
and Ken Day. All three have given excellent long-term service to the Tigers. Like all games in which a
top team plays a team down towards the bottom of the ladder, the Tigers gave it their bestshot and
never stopped trying, but the physical strength and skills of Parkside proved too muchfor a team
               undergoing a rebuilding process.
Parkside have had height where needed and overall strength, which was reflected by their position
on the senior first division ladder.
Paul Burgess led the Magpies in the ruck for a best-on-ground performance.

He was having a good season and had been rarely beaten in the ball-up contests, providing his on-
ballers with plenty of use of the ball.

Both Patterson boys, Joe and David (five goals), Philip O'Keefe, Michael Ryan and Harold Kelly also
               played well for the Magpies.

               Parkside 17.14-116 d. Yarraville 3.10-28

In round 13, The Mail’s reporter recorded that, “St Albans were certainly not overawed by taking on
second-placed Parkside, as they were really competitive all day, but for a lapse in the early part of
third quarter when the Magpies mainly due to the excellent play of Paul Burgess and Joe Patterson
booted four goals in as many minutes.
