Parkside Football Club 1897/2017
Coaches Reports
Mens Seniors
I would like to thank the committee of the Parkside football club for giving me the opportunity to
coach the side this year.
I would especially like to thank Dennis Ryan, Goran Salopek, Arthur Vouthas, Mark Considine, Paul
McSweeny and all others who assisted, sometimes at very short notice. They know who they are.
Season 2001 was always going to be a challenging one for myself and the playing group, due to
reasons well documented. An objective to field a competitive team was more than accomplished,
and the players should be commended for their efforts with 11/7 win/loss ratio.
To take the field in round one with minimal preparation, and to be competitive against a premier
side, gave me the confidence that made me feel that we were going to be a very competitive team,
and not just there to make up numbers.
As I have chosen not to accept the senior coaching position in season 2002, I would like to take this
opportunity to wish the committee and players all the very best for the future.
John Barbuto
Senior Coach 2001
Mens Reserves
After starting the year in game one with a 40 goal thrashing by St Albans, it seemed that the year
would be a very long and difficult one. This was not the case.
To finish in equal fourth position, sixth on percentage at the end of the season was a very good
result. Much of the credit for this result goes to those players who stuck with the reserves for the
whole of the year.
Injuries to the senior side, which at one stage took 6/7 players at once, proved to be the difference
between us getting into the final five and just missing out. It is acknowledged, however, that we
reserves are there to support the seniors in time of need.
I must take this opportunity to thank all those involved with the reserves, especially Arthur Vouthas,
Paul Barbuto and Guy Barbuto for their help throughout the year.
In closing, I say that the year as coach was enjoyable and an experience that I will gain from.
