After Lockdown…
by Jeffrey
If I were asked a few years from now about the lockdown, this is how I
would tell it: lockdown was a state of isolation and restricted access
imposed as a security measure to reduce or control a drastic situation
that no one ever thought would happen in their lifetime. Lockdown was
imposed throughout the world due to COVID 19 pandemic, which was a
life-threatening disease to humanity. In the United Kingdom, Boris
Johnson announced the lockdown on the 23 March 2020.

Lockdown had a lot of effects on humanity. Everything came to a halt;
there was no business and no movement. Schools, factories, shops and
many social places and activities were closed or suspended. In the
United Kingdom, you could only go out for shopping, medical reasons,
exercise or for work if you were a keyworker.
People were forced to adapt to a new lifestyle. There were many problems
in many families and marriages. These problems occurred in
relationships whereby partners did not usually spend a lot of time
together due to work.
A lot of people queued and spent time and money on shopping as they
were worried about running out of food.
There was a reduction in household income as people lost their jobs.
Those who could work from home were advised to do so; working from
home was amazing for some whilst for others it was a very challenging
situation. People were depressed as they had no social life, no friends
and couldn’t see their relatives. They could only communicate on the
phone or through social media. Visiting their sick relatives or paying
their last respect to their loved ones in hospitals was restricted or
banned.
However, with the implementation of the lockdown, many lives were
saved and there was a decrease in the number of people contracting the
virus. This helped lower the death rate. There were many other benefits,
such as transforming people’s lives for the better by learning to manage
their time more effectively, appreciate their families, opportunities to
know more about their relationships, save money on travel and fuel,
reduce commuting time, but most of all reduce pollution.
Lockdown had a lasting effect on every individual alive. It caused havoc
and I believe it will live in infamy. People will always talk about it like
generations before us talked about various wars. This was our war and
humanity WON!
