Moroccan Weddings
by Fatima
Moroccan weddings are six days long and
before they start, people get their invitations a
month early. The bride's family starts making
up to ten different kinds of sweets, and when
they are done, they start deciding what food to
cook for the guests.
When everything is ready, the wedding starts
and the first day is ‘Henna Day’ with family
and friends supporting the bride while
everyone enjoys getting henna done. The
bride gets special treatment as henna is
applied to her hands and feet, which separates her from others who have light henna
designs only on their hands.
On the second day, more people are
invited to a big villa wedding and the bride
parades in up to five
opulent dresses,
showing off the different
cultures of Morocco.
The people invited eat
sweets and savouries
with Moroccan mint tea, coffee and
different homemade juices. Throughout the evening, there is a band playing lots of
types of Moroccan music and then dinner is a 5-course meal, usually traditional
Moroccan dishes are served.
On the third day, the bride wears a white dress and cuts a big
cake and enjoys it with friends and family before leaving for
her new home.
On the fourth day, the groom's family has a big party as well
like the bride's family.
On the fifth day, the groom takes the bride to have breakfast
with his family, where a music band will also be waiting to
play before going home to pack their suitcases.
On the sixth day is the last day and everyone says goodbye
to them and they go on their honeymoon.
