Chapter 4 - Implementation

                        4.1 Introduction

The objective of this action research is to communicate a model of effective coaching to

enable coaches to reflect on and improve their practice. The purpose of this chapter is to
describe and explain how my research was conducted and guide you the reader through

                                                                                            10’
the process undertaken to produce a video to communicate the ‘Coach model using a
                        narrative approach.

As stated previously, I applied the Educational Entrepreneurial Approach to my Action

Research (Crotty, 2014) and will use the headings of Explore, Understand, Create and

Transform to guide the reader through my production journey.

                        4.2 Explore

I commenced my research with an exploration of my values and passion, an

investigation into my work culture and context, and an enquiry into the relevant

                        literature.

                        4.2.1 Who am I?

Through the reflective journaling process established at the beginning of this study I
began to clarify my educational values. I stated these in Chapter 1 as Passion,

Collaboration, Community and Responsibility and they have become the guiding
principles for my research and my work. Collaboration has been something I have long

reflected upon and practiced. Photo 4.1 is a page from a journal I submitted as part of

the requirements for the ‘Creativity and Change’ Level 8 Certificate Programme in
Cork Institute of Technology in 2012/13. The journal entry highlights reflection on

different forms of working together and places ‘Collaboration’ as the highest form.
