5.5 Final Thoughts
This research aimed to explore the development and implementation of a multimedia
resource to help improve parental involvement in their child’s reading literacy during
the primary school years. The resource the ‘Parent Learning Zone’ was fully
implemented into the school community as a means to help enhance parental
involvement by improving the school’s communications with the wider school
community. Furthermore, it aimed to provide parents with best practice examples
and eLearning resources on how to read more effectively with their child. It also
provided them with key information and suitable reading strategies and teaching
models to practice at home. The research allowed me to identify the areas in need of
improvement and change within our school. The feedback provided by the parents
and teachers of our school suggest the resource is an effective tool in promoting the
importance of reading homework and assisting the parents with their child’s reading,
therefore I believe this research has achieved its aim.
As previously stated the feedback provided by the parents on the ‘Parent Learning
Zone’ will be fundamental to the future development of the resource. Going forward,
I aspire to create a series of instructional videos in all subject areas, starting with
Maths, ICT, Internet Safety and Irish as requested by the parents (Chart 4.1). I hope
