Chapter 5 – Conclusion
5.1 Transform
In this section I discuss and evaluate the impact my research and the development of
my resource has had on my workplace environment, parental involvement and my
own personal and professional transformation. I will conclude with a summary of the
main findings of my research and discuss potential future work and areas of growth
for this research and resource.
5.2 Video Resource
Although the multimedia resource the ‘Parent Learning Zone’ is still in the early
phase of implementation, I am confident it will improve our school by providing
parents with a guide of how best to read with their child. My belief is that this will in
turn encourage parents and carers to read aloud with their children at home and
promote improved reading fluency and literacy skills by using the reading strategies
and teaching methods provided. As can be seen from (Figure 5.1) and (Figure 5.2)
my resource the ‘Parent Learning Zone’ has added an element of interaction for the
viewer. I also transformed our current text-based resource ‘Reading With Your Child
at Home’ into a series of interactive short videos.
To ascertain if my video resource will have a positive, neutral or negative effect on
the reading literacy of our pupils and the parental involvement within our school, I
will use a qualitative analysis when analysing the qualitative data with scores on
reading tests as well as measuring the view count, watch time and audience retention
rate using Google Analytics. This will take place after a six-month period as I feel
measuring and analysing the data prior to this will be premature and not a true
reflection of the ‘Parent Learning Zone’s’ impact on the reading standards. I will
review the parent questionnaires and comment section embedded on the resource to
determine their overall satisfaction.
