        AGA Charleston 10-year anniversary & awards event


                                                 The AGA Charleston, SC chapter celebrated its 10th year anniversary by hosting
                                                 a well-received Anniversary and Awards Celebration at CGFS Charleston on May
                                                 16th.  Attendees, including MIL COO Marisa Daley, were invited to cheer on the
                                                 professional achievements of AGA Charleston members and their colleagues. The
                                                 MIL team was well-represented during the awards presentation, receiving numerous
                                                 awards and receiving recognition for outstanding success.
                                                 Rebecca Helms was awarded the “AGA Chapter Service Award” for her remarkable
                                                 initiative and outstanding contributions to the AGA Charleston chapter. Rebecca
                                                 joined the chapter in late 2016 and immediately became a vital asset, supporting
                                                 and expanding the chapter communication and outreach programs. Chapter
                                                 leaders selected Rebecca to attend the Sectional Leadership Meeting (SLM) event in
        Baltimore, where she successfully represented the chapter. Rebecca’s role in the chapter is set to expand even further with her upcoming
        role as President-Elect!
        Sheena Kennedy was awarded the “Advancing Government Accountability Award.”  As Chapter
        President, Sheena led the Charleston chapter to host its inaugural Professional Development Training
        (PDT) event in November 2016, providing valuable educational training and networking to government
        financial management professionals in the Charleston area. Sheena led the team to obtain high caliber
        speakers including Chip Fulghum, CFO, Department of Homeland Security as well as Doug Glenn,
        AGA National President and Deputy CFO, U.S. Dept. of Interior.  The PDT was a smashing success,
        with rave reviews from all involved with the event.

        Steve Sams was also awarded the “Advancing Government Accountability Award” in recognition of
        his exceptional skills in developing automated business process improvement solutions, which have
        resulted in countless benefits for the CGFS organization over the past year. Steve has supported the
        Department in providing data analytics, business process improvement tools, automation initiatives,
        reconciliations and reporting for the CGFS bureau.   Steve supports the maintenance of 30+ custom
        business process automation tools, which are critical to the daily and monthly CGFS operations and
        have resulted in workload reduction and improved data integrity.
        Additionally, the following MIL staff were recognized at the event for their noteworthy award nominations; Courtney Brown for
        “Achievement of the Year Award,” Peg Kendra for “Achievement of the Year Award,” Karyn Kunzig for “Advancing Government
        Accountability Award,” Patrick Holland for “Advancing Government Accountability Award,” and Razvan Badea for “Advancing
        Government Accountability Award.”
        Congratulations to all award recipients and to the AGA Charleston Chapter for 10 Years of ever-evolving success!


        “Women in Tech” gathering together                     within the industry. This event was no exception, as Timmy and
                                                               Paul identified two potential candidates for open positions in
        The MIL Team Charleston joined up with the Meet Up group   Charleston.
        “Women in Tech” for networking and tech talk on May 24th.   Both of these events are part of the MIL Charleston team’s
        Jeanine Otto and Rebecca Helms joined over 100 members of   efforts to better engage the community in regards to recruiting,
        the group to help get MIL’s name out into the tech conversation.
        The group was hosted by the hot new start-up company, BOOM
        TOWN! and included featured speaker, Halle Tecco, an advisor to
        Harvard Business School and an Adjunct Professor at Columbia
        University School of Business. Jeanine and Rebecca had the
        opportunity to share all that MIL has to offer potential employees,
        but were also able to share their expertise with others on how to
        break into our fields of work.
        On the other side of town, Paul Bloss and Timmy Van Parys
        attended the “Tech after 5” networking event at Lagunitas in
        Downtown Charleston. “Tech after 5” is one of the best local
