INTERVIEWING BEST PRACTICES
BEFORE THE INTERVIEW
Do your homework on the candidate
Have a clear understanding of the qualities that are needed for the position
Be prepared with your “Why Piedmont” statement
Communicate with your interview team to ensure a consistent experience
throughout the process
INTERVIEW DO’S AND DON’TS
DO:
Understand a little bit about who you’re interviewing first
Confirm the details of the interview with the person you’re interviewing
including date and time
Method of communication (Skype, phone call, etc.)
Approximate length of interview
Allow the person you’re interviewing to talk to engage in conversation
Don’t interrupt
Listen! Be engaged in the interview - not just a person who reads the
questions aloud.
Take notes
Say thank you
DON’T:
Ask a yes or no question
Ask more than one question at a time
Forget to be present with the person you’re interviewing
Rely too much on research or notes, as it takes away from your active listening
