TYPES OF INTERVIEW QUESTIONS
OPEN-ENDED
Open-ended questions require more than a one-word response. Ask these
frequently during the interview.
What are your greatest strengths and weaknesses?
CLOSED-ENDED
Straightforward questions usually require a one-word answer, typically “yes”
or “no”. Avoid using too many closed-ended questions, as it could make the
candidate feel they are being interrogated.
Do you feel comfortable cleaning up bodily fluids?
HYPOTHETICAL
Hypothetical questions are situational and job related, problem-solving
questions. Use once, maybe twice at most. Be careful with hypothetical
questions because it’s easy to fake the right answers.
What would you do if you see a call light on outside a patient’s
room?
CHARACTER
Character questions help you get to know the candidates personality and
will tell you if the candidate is a good culture fit beyond their resume.
What would your co-workers say they like best about you?
DON’T BE AFRAID TO ASK FOLLOW-UP QUESTIONS SUCH AS:
What did you learn?
What was your role?
