How does a Bond Program come to be?
NOTES: F. WHAT ARE DESIGN GUIDELINES AND TECHNICAL STANDARDS?
The Design Standards and Technical Specifications Section develops and
maintains District standards and design guidelines for the planning and
design of District schools. These standards are intended to assure
conformance to District requirements for instructional function and to
improve the quality and economy of construction, maintenance, and
operation.
The Design Guidelines are developed to assist the Architect-Engineer in the
planning and design of functional, cost effective, and durable educational
facilities that are attractive and enhance the educational experience for
their students. They are not intended to limit or control opportunities for
innovative design but rather to assist the Designers in understanding
certain planning requirements, design criteria, and concern regarding
reduction of energy consumption. Nevertheless, whenever the design of
facilities varies from the requirements and considerations of the Guidelines,
the Designer shall obtain prior approval in writing from the Owner.
The Technical Standards are intended to provide uniform and consistent
quality standards for design and construction of all District facilities. They
outline the minimum acceptable standards for products, materials, and
systems used in all facility improvements, including new construction,
renovation, remodeling, and maintenance.
To prepare and update these documents, the guidelines and standards
collaborate with members of the District's Educational and Instructional
Services staff and Maintenance and Operations personnel, as well as
conducting independent research on new materials and systems.
