10. ENTERTAINING

PERFORM A SIMPLE MIME OR SING A SONG IN PUBLIC, ALONE OR WITH
                     ANOTHER CUB SCOUT
A MIME is acting without words or sounds. Your mime can be anything you
like. You can get plenty of ideas by watching people doing their jobs: gardener,
fireman, mechanic, painter to name a few. Here are some helpful points.
Look - watch closely how they do an action.
Copy – copy their actions, do not act quickly.
Plan – you need to plan your mime. Do not let it go on too long.
Practice – you will need to practice, especially if you are doing the mime with
                     another Cub Scout.
Real – when you are acting imagine you are the person doing the action in real life.
You should not need any props.
Finally – make sure all your audience can see you.

                     11. HOME SERVICE

( a ) BE ABLE TO FOLD YOUR SCARF PROPERLY BEFORE YOU PUT IT ON
Lay your scarf on a table with the inside upwards. Fold the long side, at
about an inch at a time, towards the point, until it is the same distance as from your
thumb to the tip of your fingers, from the point.

(b ) BE ABLE TO KEEP YOUR CLOTHES TIDY
Whenever you arrive home hang up your clothes and put your shoes away.
Always keep your clothes tidy in the cupboards and put the dirty clothes to one side
for washing. At night, put out the clothes that you will need in the morning.

( c ) KNOW HOW TO CARE FOR YOUR SHOES, BOTH WHEN THEY ARE DRY
                     AS WELL AS WET
Clean and polished shoes will make you look smart. By keeping your shoes
clean – and this means cleaning them every day – you will also make them last
                     longer.

To clean wet shoes, first take off any mud. Do this into a dust pan, not onto
the floor. Wipe off the shoes with a damp cloth, then wipe them dry and stuff with
newspaper in order to keep their shape. Let the shoes air dry. When they are
completely dry you can start to clean them. Spread plenty of newspapers on the
floor to protect it from the polish. Brush the polish well into the leather. Leave the
shoes for a few moments then brush with a soft brush. Bring up the shine with a
soft cloth. If you can clean shoes well you can do a lot of good turns, especially at
home for your parents, and you could earn some funds during Scout Week for the
                     Pack.
