17. MODERN TECHNOLOGY

( a ) VISIT AN OFFICE NEAR YOUR PACK AND MAKE A LIST
OF THE MODERN EQUIPMENT IN USE. TALK TO THE
USERS ABOUT HOW THEY OPERATE AND TELL YOUR PACK
WHAT YOU HAVE LEARNT.

Some of the equipment you should see are photo-copiers,
fax machines, computers, printers and paper shredders. I am
sure that Akela can arrange a visit to an office, perhaps she even
works in one.

( b ) VISIT A MODERN RESTAURANT OR FAST-FOOD OUTLET
AND OBSERVE THE EQUIPMENT AND HOW THEY OPERATE.

Restaurants used to have just stoves and refrigerators in
their kitchens but now they have many pieces of equipment and
utensils such as Microwave ovens and electric knives and walk-in freezers. Any of
our Hotels would allow a visit from your pack.

( c ) FIND OUT FROM YOUR PARENTS WHAT CHANGES HAVE TAKEN PLACE
IN DOMESTIC APPLIANCES OVER THE PAST FIVE YEARS. TELL YOUR PACK
WHAT YOU HAVE FOUND OUT.

Now almost every home has a refrigerator as well as an electric or gas
stove. Some even have a freezer chest, a microwave oven, a dish washer, a
clothes washer and dryer and many other items.

18. THE LAW AND PROMISE

SHOW THAT YOU ARE KEEPING THE LAW AND PROMISE IN YOUR DAILY
LIFE BY EXAMPLE.

Akela will expect you be carrying out your Promise to a high standard;
perhaps you will be helping to assist with Pack prayers or taking part in activities in
your church or Sunday school.

You should set a good example to your Pack and to your classmates at school – do
you set a good example?
