COLLECTOR


                    Requirements:
                    1. Make a collection of any one type of object over a four month period, arrange it
                    neat and systematically.
                    The nature or subject of the collection is to be chosen by the Cub Scout.  Examples
                    are: Stamps, Match Boxes, Coins, and Shells.

                    The collection must be of reasonable size, bearing in mind the nature of the
                    collection; but quality is an important factor.

                     2. Display the collection, and the reasons for the choice.


                                                           COMMUNICATOR
                    Requirements:
                    A.
                    1. Send and receive a message of not less than 150 letters at rate 9 (45 letters per
                    minute) in Semaphore and at rate 5 (25 letters per minute) on Buzzer or lamp in Morse.  Or
                    send and receive a message of not less than 150 letters at rate 8 (40 letters per minute) on
                    buzzer at rate 6 (30 letters per minute) on Lamp on Morse.

                    2. Demonstrate that you know a recognized procedure when sending a message by Morse
                    Semaphone, C.B. H.F. VHF.
                    3. Improvise at least two methods of sending a message in Morse or Semaphone at least half
                    a mile at or over rate 4 (20 letters per minute).

                    4. Know the International Phonetic Alphabet (International Code for Signaling).  Give the
                    phonetic names of five groups of five mixed letter groups provided by the Examiner –
                    Distance minimum – 140 metres – 150 yards – 80% accuracy.
                    B.
                    1. (a) Within a period of three months record 30 different radio amateurs showing details of
                    date, time, call sign, signal strength, readability and location.
                        (b) Discuss with your leader your experience in keeping your Log e.g. use of equipment,
                    longest distance covered.

                    2. Discuss with your leader the use of the various amateur frequency bands.  Know which
                    frequencies you should use to cover various distances during the day or night.

                    3. Define at least twelve International Q signals.
                    4. Know the local regulations controlling the use of Walkie Talkies, Radio Equipment and
                    Broadcasting.

                    5. Be able to communicate a basic message using sign language.
