ENTERTAINER
Requirements:
1. Entertain by yourself for at least fifteen minutes with a varied programme from the
following: Songs, recitations, conjuring tricks, character sketches, storytelling,
dancing – step or talk instrumental music and any special entertainment skill you
possesses.
2. Play a leading role in an entertainment event put on by your patrol or group.
3. Take part with a Church, School or any other community group in an
entertainment programme.
EXPLORER
Requirements:
1. Complete a 12 k.m. journey on foot or 15 k.m. by water or 50 k.m. cycle journey,
camping out overnight with at least two other Cub Scouts (of your own age).
2. Produce a brief written account of your journey with a sketch showing the route
traversed and any other interesting features.
3. Use a prismatic or Silva type compass outdoors to complete a simple exercise
involving six different bearings.
4. Have a general knowledge of Hiking techniques:-
(a) Care of feet; (b) Highway hiking; (c) How to walk; (d) Hiking practices;
(e) What to do when lost.
5. During the journey be able to prepare (a) a meal (Backwoodsman style); (b) a
shelter (used by explorer); (c) cast of tracks, using plaster-of-paris.
6. Have knowledge of the main roads, tracks, places of interest, major local
operations and water courses within a 6 k.m. radius of your home.
7. Know locations of main centre’s – bus stop, transport routes, recreation, food,
communication, shelter, and prominent people – doctor, hospitals, fire station, police
station, garage and public telephones, tourist attractions.
8. Discuss local weather conditions with the Examiner.
