FIRST AIDER
Requirements:
Know the limits of First Aid and the need for getting Adult help.
1. Know how to control bleeding by direct pressure on a wound.
2. Know the importance of cleanliness and show how to dress minor cuts and
grazes with gauze and roller bandages; apply and remove adhesive dressings.
3. Demonstrate the use of a triangular bandage as a large arm sling and a knee
bandage.
4. Demonstrate how to make a patient comfortable.
5. Know the common causes of burns and scalds in the home and their prevention;
how to put out burning clothing; the simple treatment of burns and scalds.
6. Have knowledge of the mouth-to-mouth method of respiratory resuscitation and
where possible demonstrate this method by use of a manniquin or approved aid.
HANDYMAN
Requirements:
Demonstrate to the satisfaction of the Examiner, any six (6) of the following:
(a) Glaze a window, either in wood or iron frame.
(b) Whitewash or paint a ceiling; paint or distemper a room.
(c) Repair defective plastering.
(d) Repair and re-hang a door.
(e) Effect minor repairs to furniture, such as broken castors and minor upholstery
repairs.
(f) Lay and adjust crazy paving.
(g) Clean a gas stove.
(h) Put a neat patch on a garment.
(i) Clean and polish a car.
(j) Repair a gate or fence.
(k) Mix concrete and effect simple repairs with it.
(l) Repair children's toys.
(m) Lay/linoleum/carpet.
(n) Replace a tap washer.
(o) Oil and adjust a lawn mower.
(p) Replace a defective fuse.
(q) Any other skill approved by the Examiner.
