THE LINK BADGE

When your reach 10 ½ years old you will begin preparing to move up from the Cub
                                       th
Scouts into the Scouts after your 11 Birthday. This does not matter at what stage
you are in the Arrow Programme. The links in the badge represent the Links
between the Cub Scout Programme, the Scout Programme and the Venture Scout
        Programme keeping them together.

The details of the Link Badge are as follows:
               (a) Be at least ten and a half years of age.
               (b) Visit the Scout Leader and register for entry into the Troop.
               (c) Take part in at least three interesting weekly Patrol activities.
               (d) Have General Knowledge of the Scout movement.
               (e) Have General Knowledge of the Development of World Scouting.
               (f) Know the Scout Promise and Law.
Akela will take you to meet the Scout Leader, who will then introduce you to
the Leader of the Patrol you will be joining. You should attend three or more Scout
meetings and get to know the Scouts in your Patrol and the other Scouts in the
        Troop.
When you have completed your Link Badge requirements and are ready to
move up to the Scouts you will be a major player in the “Going-up Ceremony.”

                             GOING-UP CEREMONY
The Group Scout Leader calls the Parade to “Alert” and briefly explains the
purpose of the Ceremony as there will be parents and other people present.

The Cub Scout “Going-up” is called up in front of Akela who thanks him for
his loyalty to the Pack and reminds the Pack of the highlights of the Cub Scout's
Service. After shaking the hands of the other Cub Scouts he is led by Akela to a
dividing line between the Pack and the Troop, where the Scout Leader and a Patrol
Leader are waiting to receive him, and removes his Cub Scout Cap.

The Scout Leader greets the new Scout with suitable words of welcome and
puts a Scout Cap on his head. The Patrol Leader then leads the new Scout to his
Patrol. The Group Scout Leader leads the Group in a suitable yell or cheer.
