14. CONSERVATION
Continuing your activities in Conservation, complete the
following:
(a) IDENTIFY BODY BUILDING FOODS, ENERGY AND HEAT
PRODUCING FOODS AND PROTECTIVE FOODS AND MAKE A
LIST.
Some body building foods are: milk, meat, fish, beans, peas, etc.
Energy and heat producing foods: cereals, ground provisions, rice,
flour, etc. Protective foods: fruits and vegetables, etc.
Find out some more foods in each group by checking the
school library and the Public Library and perhaps Akela could ask someone from
the Health Department to give the Pack a talk on foods.
(b) SET UP A SMALL GARDEN IN UNUSED LAND, OR AT HOME, AND TEND IT
PROPERLY.
Plan out your garden bed, dig it thoroughly and plant some seeds or young
plants. Keep them watered and protected from the hot sun
and free from weeds. Ask Akela to have an expert from the
Agriculture Department come to your meeting and advise on
how to tend the garden to produce flowers or vegetables.
(c) PARTICIPATE IN AN EXHIBITION WHICH DISPLAYS ITEMS RELATED TO
THE CULTURE OF YOUR AREA.
Find out from the Department of Culture, Department of Agriculture, the
Botanical Gardens etc, of any exhibitions in which you may take part. You could
display vegetables, fruits, flowers, etc; you may have grown in your area.
Check again for the details of the World Conservation Badge, perhaps the
previous items can help you to gain the badge.
