(1) SHOW THAT YOU ARE ABLE TO USE A PUBLIC TELEPHONE CORRECTLY
AND USE IT TO REPORT AN EMERGENCY.
When using a telephone to report an emergency give your location
and the type of emergency first, i.e. Main Street, Fire. This is
necessary in case the phone goes out of order before you complete your
message. At least the Emergency Service will know where to go and for
what. Report the location, type of emergency, how many vehicles or
person involved, and any injuries. Make sure you get a reply before you
put the phone down.
(2) DELIVER A MESSAGE OF 15-20 WORDS CONTAINING DATES,
FIGURES AND NAMES, AND REPEAT THE MESSAGE AFTER AN
INTERVAL OF NOT LESS THAN FIVE MINUTES.
Practice with a short message and keep adding words until you are able to
remember more than twenty.
(3) JOIN IN THE CLEANING OF FURNITURE OR OTHER ITEMS IN YOUR
CHURCH, SCHOOL OR ANY PUBLIC OR COMMUNITY BUILDING.
Ask the Priest at your church if the Pack can assist with the church cleaning,
or the Principal at your school. Don't forget your home, so help your Parents. Have
Akela check with the Department responsible for any Community building. Perhaps
you may even get the chance to assist in the cleaning of the office of the Governor
General or the Prime Minister or any other Minister of Government.
(4) ASSIST IN CARING FOR THE GROUNDS OF YOUR GROUP OR THE
NATIONAL SCOUT HEADQUARTERS OR ANY COMMUNITY FACILITY.
Even without this task in the programme the area around your meeting place
and the Government Complex in the Island Community should always be kept
clean and tidy, and free from litter, and the grass and bushes kept trimmed. How
about the area around your home?
Ask Akela for details of the World Conservation Badge.
12. FAMILY LIFE
(a) TAKE PART IN THE PLANNING OF A FAMILY EVENT WITH THE PACK (e.g.
PARENT'S EVENING).
(b) INVITE YOUR PARENTS, GUARDIANS OR RELATIVES TO THE EVENT AND
ACCOMPANY THEM.
