The receipt [below] is the first documentary evidence to surface on Lock Hing other than entries in the Hong
Kong commercial directories of the period 1900-1930.
The standing cup and the figural tankard [right] are of a similar
period, circa 1885-90, however, the standing cup may not have
begun life as a standing cup! It apparently came into the world
as a hot water urn and originally had a silver spigot that was
inserted front/central at the base of the bulbous part of the
campagna urn shape. A small oval silver insert replaces the
spigot aperture. What is not known is whether the original piece
was made for LOCK or whether they simply carried out the
conversion and then added their mark.
