At roughly the same period Lock
Hing was operating, the Canton
silversmith Kam Lung was creating
what appear to be almost identical
standing cups to the one illustrated
above - or at least the characteristics
of the workmanship and style are
indistinguishable. The Contemporary
Kam Lung standing cup and
detailing, including a dragon’s head
executed by what looks like the
same hand as the previously
illustrated “LOCK” cup.
Left: An image of another receipt from Lock Hing
showing that it had a separate store for Japanese
Wares. A close inspection of the premises [see
following image] shows that Lock Hing was spread
across a 3 unit store - one must have been
dedicated specifically to Chinese Wares and
another to Japanese Wares.
