Teh Ling obviously did a brisk trade with foreign legation and
military personnel returning home and wanting “souvenir” items to
mark their stay in China. 1935, when this set was acquired at Teh
Ling, there was also a significant number of American naval
personnel in the city, as the image [below], taken in 1935, shows.
This lady’s dressing table set complete with its lockable jewellery
box. The signature .935 silver content mark that Teh Ling used
appears on the bottom of the box along with an engraved
inscription [right].
