While  this  elegant  egg  cruet  of  an  approximate
                                                                  same date and carries a similar central decorative
                                                                  flourish under the handle. Wong Shing is one of
                                                                  the  few  Chinese  retail  silversmiths  to  make  a
                                                                  smooth  transition  from  the  Georgian  style  into
                                                                  the Victorian period when, after the 1842 Treaty of
                                                                  Nanking,  it  increasingly  became  de  rigueur  to
                                                                  transplant  traditional  Chinese  decorative  motifs
                                                                  onto  Western  forms.  Most  Chinese  silversmiths
                                                                  at  this  time  followed  suit;  not  all  with  the  same
                                                                  degree of success.
