Page 856 - Chinese SIlver By Adrien Von Ferscht
P. 856
This circa 1895 tall slim ewer is
probably unique in the entire
155 year Chinese Export Silver
repertoire.
Of an elongated amphora-form,
it is exquisitely decorated with
an overall repoussé work
chrysanthemum bloom motif
set against a hammered
ground.
The achieved balance of the
piece and the leaving of the
upper and lower parts of the
ewer a plain high polished
finish and of simple form is
touch of genius. The bamboo
loop handle, although slightly
incongruous to the theme of
the piece, actually works well.
