Yenson’s bamboo theme on a planished
ground is found in this tankard [below]
which, despite its inclusion as the
decorative motif, fails to make this
piece obviously “oriental”. If anything, it
has a somewhat middle European feel
to it making one wonder whether this
was the intended market of Yenson.
Research continues in order to discover
more about this retail silversmith,
including its ownership.
The dish ring [below] is certainly unusual in terms of it
being an item of the Chinese Export Silver era. Since I
cannot recall having seen such an item from any other
Chinese silversmith, this may give some credence to the
theory that a Western mind was part of the Yenson
equation.
