This large tray was probably a contemporary piece of the previously illustrated tea and coffee service, but it
begins to give an indication that Yenson offered a range of “matching” silver where customers could build their
own set or collection. This tray would look just at home with a cocktail set sitting upon it. The work on the
handles of the tray particularly show the level of quality and the heavy gauge of silver employed. This was
obviously an expensive tray.
The following item is surprisingly quite unique; the use of the ying/yang symbol is often used as a decorative
motif but rare to find as the basis for the actual form of an object. Again a traditional motif makes up the border
yet the object as a whole has a distinct ’30’s feel. One is given the impression a Western designer might be
behind the pieces, one that is intent on creating a fusion of the oriental with the Western fashions of the day.
Whoever it was succeeded.
