The rectangular inkstone is carved on the top with a bat borne        來源:
on archaistic scrolls above a chime-shaped troughed inkwell,
surrounded by keyfret on the sides. The reverse is carved with        日本書法家大野石齋 (1925-2011) 收藏
an inscription followed by a Guangxu tenth year date and the
signature Sun Qiye.

A rectangular Duan inkstone with very similar motifs on the front
side but with a different-decorated underside, dating to the Jiaqing
to Daoguang period, was included in the Chinese University of Hong
Kong exhibition The Quintessential Purple Stone, Hong Kong, 1991,
Catalogue, no. 75.
