‘PEONY’ CUP
QING DYNASTY, 17TH-18TH CENTURY
The cup is finely carved to the exterior
through the red layers with a band of two
long-tailed birds amidst peony flowers, all
between a band of keyfret and leaf lappets.
The interior is lined with gilt-metal.

INCENSE BOX AND COVER
MING DYNASTY, 16TH CENTURY
The top of the cover is carved with a
scholar standing beneath a pine tree
greeting another scholar seated inside a
pavilion, against two depths of diaper
grounds representing ground and air,
above two bands of cartouches enclosing
floral sprays, the sides of the box are
similarly carved.
