An amber-glazed vase of similar form, but without
a cover, was excavated in 1977 from a tomb
identifed as Khitan, and is illustrated in Wenwu,
1983, no. 9, pl. 2. Compare, also, a related vase
and cover dated to the Liao dynasty, illustrated
by Zhang Bai, Complete Collection of Ceramic Art
Unearthed in China, Vol. 4: Inner Mongolia, Beijing,
2008, p. 111, no. 111. Two other vases, one with
a related neck and both with related glazes, are
illustrated ibid., p. 95 and 97, nos. 95 and 97.
The result of Oxford thermoluminescence test no.
C103a3 is consistent with the dating of this lot.
