Heavily cast as a seated Buddhist Lion, its
forehead with ‘Wang’ character above the
bulging eyes, the tail and mane finely incised,
the right paw resting on a brocade ball, the
metal patinated to a rich black hue, hongmu

Late Ming Dynasty
The figure seated in padmasana over a double
lotus base, wearing a high tiara and heavy
jewellery, clad in a thickly-folded dhoti, the
chest bedecked in jewellery, one hand resting
on their left knee, the other raised in mudra,
both clasping long-stemmed lotuses holding
respectively a book and an alms bowl at each
of the deity’s shoulders. 21cm (8 1/4 in) high
