Seated in padmasana over a double-lotus throne, the Bodhisattva of
Mercy clad in thickly folded robes pooling at the waist and lap, the
face downcast in a serene expression beneath an elaborate headdress
decorated with an image of Amitabha, hongmu stand. 31cm (12 1/8in)

THE FOUR DIRECTIONS, TIAN WANG
Late Ming Dynasty
The powerfully-built figure clad in an elaborate armour with finely-
detailed chain mail and lion-mask breast-plates, all fastened with
a studded belt and billowing scarves, the deity with long, flowing
hair and moustache under a winged helmet with a central sun, all
mounted on a green and black marble stand.
