                     How do we assess student learning?
                     What instruments or guides can be used to
                       assess learning,(and learning needs)
                     What do they need to enhance their
                       learning?
                     Does the student/learner grasp or
                       understand basic concepts?
                     Where is the student at this time, for
                       example, can we gauge his/her attainment
                       level?

               Types of Assessment:

               Determining the types of assessments that will be
               carried out is dependent upon the structure of the
               English course. Some examples of assessment
               types are shown below, although these are not
               exhaustive and may be modified to suit each
               learner or situation.

               Summative/Formative
               In a formal academic environment, Summative and
               formative assessments are used to gauge student
               achievement. These are traditionally used in
               University/Colleges and High schools.

               Self-assessment

                   1.  Many business English learners are used to
                       conducting employee appraisals, reviews
                       and self-evaluations.
