LOOKING FORWARD IN TIME (Aug 2016)
In this pic imagine the only trees you see are the arrows and the level of banks are where the
arrow is pointing. That is how much growth occurs from May to August before fall comes.
Spring and summer paddlers all talk about getting lost or find it hard to travel thru these areas
which for me my only concern was really low water.
I could see far beyond the end of this pic and using the Evergreen trees to identify solid ground
I could tell generally the lay of the land and marshes.
Though bank growth was lower and bushes and trees naked, from the level of the river you
could not tell where the next bend would take you.
I actually grew to enjoy that. What was next ‘up around the bend’ I looked for ward to seeing.
An adventure is relative to your state of mind and state of being. If you never had been in a
kayak before, the first time you do, it is a Great Adventure.
A lot of “firsts” were happening for me and while similar to things I might have experienced in
hiking, all of these experiences on the water were virgin territory for me and an adventure.
