WIND. The bane of any kayaker, canoe, or paddler, the wind increased. It wasn’t impeding
progress at all yet, but it was obvious a challenge when facing into the wind it took more effort
for less gain. When ever moving into the wind the challenge was just to see the curve right in
front of me and know that relief would come because as often as the River moved into the
wind, it moved out of direct opposition to the wind and at angles and short distances it wasn’t
hard to paddle. Cold had increased and I wanted to find a landfall, but as long as I could paddle
I knew there had to be another camp not far from me somewhere up ahead I had seen on the
maps in the morning before I left Bear Den. I just had to find it before dark.
