LOOKING FORWARD IN TIME (Aug 2016)

In a few short months Lake Itasca looked like this compared to the previous pic-

ture. The dramatic differences in just a few short months are extreme. The levels of
water, the growth of rice, grasses, Lilly ponds, many things normal to Kayakers in

the summer are not seen in early May at all.

This would be a typical view of the lake that visitors would see as well as those
venturing forth on the Great American Adventure the Mississippi River Run.

Mosquitoes would be prevalent. Heat would be a factor. Water levels are higher

than Pre-rainy season in early May. In fact many areas seen in first weeks in May
are underwater later in spring thru summer.

The differences are like night and day. This picture and others like it are why I
chose to go May 1 2016 thru the upper reaches of the Northern Section of the Mis-

sissippi River I would call a creek, but those coming later would find lots of water.
