Evacuation Practice:
Practice evacuations for everyone are very important. Security and Client
management keep a record of practice evacuations to improve their safety and
efficiency.
Everyone is expected to participate in the regularly scheduled evacuation
practices. There are no exceptions.
An evacuation practice is scheduled for every company location at least once a
year.
Fire Evacuation
Fire Response Procedures for Evacuation
In a high rise complex when a fire alarm is activated, the floor above and the floor
below as well as the actual floor that the alarm is on will receive audible alarms and
strobes. Once the fire alarms sound contract consultants should evacuate down to a
refuge floor that is not affected by the emergency. This method is considered a partial
evacuation. During a fire alarm you would never evacuate up to a refuge floor. There is
no plan for a roof top rescue from any of Client's buildings. The access to the roof area
is locked. Refuge floors are located every third floor in a high rise complex. Example: if
a fire alarm is activated on the 23rd floor, the 24th floor, the 23rd floor, and 22nd floor
would be in alarm mode. Employees would evacuate floors 24, 23, and 22 down to the
first refuge floor that is not in alarm. The 20th floor is a refuge floor and if it were not in
alarm, anyone in this area from 24, 23, and 22 would enter the 20th floor and await
further instruction. Non high rise facilities would evacuate OUTSIDE and away from
the building in the event of a fire alarm.
The fire alarm is very loud and is accompanied by an announcement and strobes. When
a fire alarm is received, it should be considered a real alarm and contract consultants
should evacuate. When the announcement is made instructing everyone to evacuate be
sure to listen to the entire message. The message will contain vital information
concerning the evacuation.
If You Discover a Fire. . .
Go to the nearest fire alarm station and trigger the alarm.
Warn others in the area.
Call the building emergency number from a safe place. (ask your Manager for
the number in your area)
Identify who you are, identify where you are, identify where the fire is by
building, floor, and location, and give any details about the fire.
Do not attempt to fight the fire.
Walk immediately to the nearest exit and leave the building, following any
evacuation route directions that may be provided. Do not run!
