Showing their support and celebrating LGBTIQ+ culture, West Side Derby Dollz took part in the 2017 Midsumma
Pride March on the 29 January. Featuring participants both on and off skates, the group was proud to be a part of
th
the march. West Side are what is locally known as a Mixed derby league, welcoming people of all genders,
sexualities and identities into the sporting club.
Members from both West Side Derby Dollz and East Vic Roller Derby joined together to show off both their inclusive
culture and unique skills. Skaters felt the heat on a sunny 27 degree day, but that didn’t stop skaters from breaking
out some dance moves to keep the crowd cheering.
West Side are looking forward to a big year in 2017 as the
derby season starts up again. The league refreshes skills
learned late last year from the start of February.
Interested skaters, officials and other members are
encouraged to come say hello on the 19th of February at
the “Come and Try” day held in Footscray.
For more derby on the eastern side of Melbourne, check
out the Black and Blue Bouts on the 11th of February. All
proceeds of the event will be going toward Beyond Blue –
helping to reduce the impact of depression and anxiety in
the community.
West Side Derby Dollz would like to thank Midsumma
organisers for the expression space and their hard work.
Additionally thank you to all spectators and participants of
the event for coming along to help celebrate with us.
