Inline hockey made a return to the Northern Territory in 2013 after having been absent for many years since the
demolishing of the only skating rink in the Darwin area. The sport made its return after a small group of like-
minded former skaters decided they wanted to get back into hockey and began to investigate possible locations
and gauge interest from the public. After searching and talking to a number of venues, the YMCA Recreation
Centre in Palmerston, NT kindly offered up their indoor stadium to the Association for our weekly games. Whilst
it is only a basketball court, we were all just happy and excited to have an indoor, air-conditioned (let’s face it,
Darwin is a hot place) place to play.
Our first official game in 2013 saw many old faces along with new coming out of the wood works to get involved
and while some have moved on, we've maintained a core group of players and members that show up every
week over the years to help keep the sport moving along.
Move along to the end 2016 and we had a group of players make the journey over from Queensland to join us in
a weekend away to the YMCA Katherine (who are lucky enough to have their own skating rink). The association
has come a long way since its humble beginnings in 2013 and we hope that 2017 is another positive year of
growth for our members and the sport.
The Northern Territory Inline Hockey Association is determined to eventually return Inline Hockey to its former
status in the NT, where there were 200+ registered players over 4 age divisions with its own venue, but for now,
our little basketball court and 14 regular players will ensure that we continue to grow and enjoy this amazing
sport.
