8. Estimation of Sand & Silica

SCOPE
To estimate the sand and silica (Acid Insoluble Ash) in
feed and feed stuffs.

PRINCIPLE
The total ash is dissolved in dilute acids when all
minerals except sand and silica go into solution. The
solution is filtered off and the residue left behind is

ignited, cooled and weighed to get the acid insoluble
ash.
