Camping Knots: Stationary Hitches

It is a handy knot for suspending tools or
other items from pegs or cross beams over
patios or in garages, sheds, or other storage
areas. It also works well as a starting point for
lashings. The pedigree cow hitch is credited
to Dr. Harry Asher and his 1989 publication,
The Alternative Knot Book. (Dr. Asher, a
founding member of the International Guild
of Knot Tyers, also wrote about the theory
behind why knots work.)
